What to wear and bring for rafting in Bali

Guests in swimwear and rash guards getting ready at the rafting start point

You will get completely wet on a rafting trip in Bali, usually within the first five minutes. Dressing for that, and bringing one set of dry clothes, is most of what you need to know.

What to wear on the raft

  • Swimwear underneath. It dries fast and is comfortable under a life jacket.
  • A quick-dry T-shirt or rash guard and shorts on top. They protect your shoulders from the sun and from the life jacket straps. Avoid jeans and heavy cotton.
  • Sandals with a back strap, or water shoes. Flip-flops come off in the first rapid. Going barefoot is uncomfortable on rocks.
  • A strap for your glasses if you wear them.

What to bring

  • A full change of dry clothes, including underwear
  • Sunscreen, put on before you leave
  • A waterproof pouch if you want your phone on the raft
  • A plastic bag for your wet things
  • A little cash for drinks or tips

What to leave at the hotel

Jewellery, watches that are not waterproof, passports and anything else you would be upset to lose in a river. Take only what you need for the day.

What we provide at Telaga Waja Adventures

  • Helmet, life jacket and paddle
  • A professional guide in every raft
  • Insurance
  • Towels, showers and changing rooms at the finish
  • An Indonesian buffet lunch after the run

So you do not need to pack a towel, and you can travel home dry and fed.

Is it cold?

Bali is warm all year, but the Telaga Waja comes down from the mountains and the water is cool. Early morning trips can feel chilly when you first get splashed, and they are also the quietest time on the river. By late morning the sun is out and nobody minds.
